if you want to read in that corner, a slightly too-high table will give you better height (as lamps tend to be too low for direct reading light). given the choice of too high or too low, too high wins. but if it's returnable, try again.

Honestly this is the problem with most of not all tables on the market. From a decor standpoint they are Too tall and Too wide/take up too much space. The Decor 101 rule for this would be if it is less than 4 inches from the arm height youre within the acceptable window. From your pic though, I think you are right. It is too tall for your furniture.
