Can I hang here?

Just wondering...I currently have a 1500 sq foot home, and we are adding approx 694 ft in an addition. That puts me over, but we are a family of 5, and since we are living here during this major remodel/addition, there's a really good period of time that we will be sectioned off to less than 1,000 square feet.

thank goodness the kids are in school.

We've been planning this since about Jan, and it looks like phase 1 is going to start in about 2 weeks! Yikes.

Thank you ladies. All of you have helped me out already...thank you for that.

The project is going to be in stages, and my new kitchen is close to the top of that list. I have no idea what finishes for that room, mostly dictated by price, and I def want mid-century slab doors to fit in the house style...I cant wait for that planning to start...that's the fun stuff!

My home is an anomaly. It's a mid-western style ranch kit house in the middle of New England farmland, next to a 250 year old apple orchard and farm. The style is quite different than the colonials that abound in my town....

Those are the best kind of houses! You can do whatever you want, because you're not going to go against a predominate style of the home.

Do you like vintage? I love doing an eclectic style and vintage is easy and fun. There are so many possibilities! Do you want painted cabinets? Do you like a certain type of countertop or backsplash? Do you have any accessories you want to use in the space?

I ALWAYS decorate backwards (LOL) since you're supposed to start with the 'big items' but I think my approach makes it much easier, if you're working with a lower budget. You can have fun collecting pieces and then make the kitchen fit around them.

MamaGoose's kitchen is one of my favorites! There is no other like it and that's the best part. That and thinking how fun it would be to sit in the kitchen and visit with her....wish we all were close enough to visit each other :)

My style is def eclectic. used to be antiques sprinkled with modern. now, I think I"ll go in reverse...modern sprinkled with antiques.

I'm going to shoot for wood lowers, all drawers :-), and really no uppers to start with. I haven't seen my full kitchen stuff for over a year at this point, I pared down to the minimum when we put our old house on the market.

My plan is if I want some uppers, to do the ikea garage style ones in white where I find I need them. I love those. And, my husband and I can put those in.

I really, really, really want soapstone. Not sure if it "goes". I am thinking that maybe if I kept it grey it would fit a little better....

I have a marble slab kitchen room table we put together ourselves, and I love it. It's so french country looking...with cast iron pedestal lags....I'm thinking maybe if I change the legs on it, it would look better since we have an eat in kitchen, no dining room.

Right now we have the very boring job of completely emptying our basement, so they can go in and work in there, updating the insulation, windows, and an old weird garage door that cant be used as a garage door..it's our only storage here, so it's a mess....

Sounds great! Do you have any pictures of the table? And I think black soapstone countertops would be pretty....but if you prefer gray that would look nice, too.

Have you seen MamaGoose's kitchen? Her countertops are wonderful! :)

I think anybody that uses the phrase "approx. 694 SF" (emphasis mine) will be eagerly welcomed here!!

    Lavender Lass,

heres a pic of our kitchen table. It looks shiny in the this pic, but the top is honed. I love it.

Just not sure how it will look/fit in my new kitchen. I'm going to def try it in there and see....I don't want my home to be an homage to modern take on midecentury, but I also don't want it to look to incongruous

Love the table and chairs! :)

You have to use them...I'd make them my inspiration for the design. Either by creating a traditional kitchen that 'goes' with it....or making them pop against a more modern version.

This is the only picture I could find even close...all drawers with no uppers. The wrought iron could stay or go (your choice) but I like the white cabinets and black (granite?) countertops with the marble table and chairs.
