Konrad, thankfully, my well has a high flow rate and good quality water, but at times I also use rain water, though those barrels had sat dry for most of the summer!

Prairie_northrose, those are 'Garland Orange' marigolds, they're great, though plants get so big that they require caging to prevent them from splaying and breaking apart.

Wayne, yes, it's time well spent and enjoyed, summer is too short, so we soak it up as much as possible!

I thought well water was no good for plants, all around Edmonton anyway.

Konrad, I used to have to melt snow for the seedlings I'd start in late winter and spring, though I gave up on that when I tried well water and had excellent results. My water has some iron, though is otherwise very well tolerated by whatever plants I use it upon.

Donna, my soil is pretty average, though is deeply dug and I use slow release fertilizer at planting time and broadcast a bit of lawn fertilizer on the rudbeckia patch. Most of the annuals I grow do not require deadheading, rudbeckia in particular have very long lasting individual blooms that do not need any tidying up ... thankfully!

Brandon, I always start some rudbeckia each year in March to later set out as transplants, though what you see in the above photo have all self sown themselves, they're such very e-a-s-y flowers!

I tried to start some rudbeckia from seeds this spring but none of them germinate. Then I bought a rudbeckia. It grows well but the flower turned out ugly. What kind of rudbeckia do you have there? Did u put them in fridge before you sow the seeds?
