IMO, It means the ability to garden for those of us that cant bend over or lift.

Or stand, as in a wheelchair.

IMHO it is the ability to garden - raised beds with wide enough frames to sit if needed, easy water system - drip, etc, beds that are accessible on both sides, paths that are safe and easy to negotiate with walker, wheelchair, crutches. It translates to still being a useful productive family member, friend and neighbor . I also get to pay back those who help me with harder chores with fresh veggies

There are many definitions of the word - accessible - and most would agree that when discussing gardening, it refers to creating a garden that is accessible to every person regardless of physical or mental limitations. It includes people with arthritis, mild to very debilitating , spinal injuries or disease and those people who just find it difficult to use a pruner or bend over to weed. There are blind gardeners, as well as those paralized and/or victims of strokes and accidents. Accessible to the disabled population means that it is wheelchair accessible as described in the Americans With Disabilities Act Information ADA.gov United States Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division.
