Winterizing my garden

Got another question for ya'all, I LOVE this site!!! I wanted to take the time to say thank you! You all never leave me in a lurch, my questions are always answered quickly and accurately, I couldn't ask for a better site to help me out!!!

So my new issue is winter... this is my first garden, hence why I have SO many questions about plants!!! :0) I have Vincas, Petunias, Morning Glory, Cosmos, Roses (which I will just bring in for winter) etc. in my garden. And I have Hollyhocks I just planted in a bunch of pots. I heard to have a nice bunch the next year you should plant them Aug/Sept. the year before. I have various others mixed in, as well, my main concern is my pots. I thought I was being smart, putting my starter plants in pots for next year, becuase i can better protect them if needed. I just read it's not as good, but I already got it going, so I will just deal. :0)

My question, sorry... what should I do for them? Would it be better to place them in the garage for winter, watering them periodically? Or leave them outside? And the ones in the ground, I know most wont come back but my petunias are throwing tons of seeds, and I heard morning glories will come back if left and not cleaned up for spring??? What do I do for them, anything???

Thank you again, in advance, for your help!!! You all are so wonderful on this site!!! God bless!
