Did you dig these up to see how many offsets each had produced?

I've only seen 2 produced.

I have on occasion found that to be true. However, the offsets would be all kinds of sizes from tiny to somewhat large.

From 6 bulbs to 28 in one season is a lot. Each bulb would have to produce at least 4 babies. Perhaps your original bulb had more than one nose (already had attached babies).

these offsets will require another 2 years to bring them up to flowering size in a bulb frame. I find it is best to simply leave them in the ground where they will reliably double their bulk every year.
