Anyone know where I can get some Chicago hardy cuttings.

Cuttings are only available in winter when trees are dormant. There is a thread which names a lot of varieties that do well in NJ here.

Thanks Suzi, so dormancy in my area would be like December,January so your saying take the cuttings then and begin to root them then so there ready for potting come April or May

Absolutely! Why take a cutting from a fig with fruit on it? You want to lose the fruit? None of us want to do that, and there is no guarantee green cuttings will survive. Lesson learned hard. Bought a few that arrived slimy and dead during summer. Got over that fast.

My orchard is planted. No more wishes. But, this forum will come alive in dormancy season when we all prune our trees and have cuttings to offer for sale, for postage, or for free.

I understand now I was air layering a friends fig tree was doing good and a storm came and broke the branch so I cut it into 8" pieces and put them in a plastic box with moss on them and only 3 produced roots the rest got slimy and moldy I think it was to wet. It was my first attempt and it was August. So I planted the 3 with roots in 16 oz clear cups and put them in a big plastic box in my sunroom what should I keep the humidity at. And thanks for all your help. I'm really enjoying the challenges of growing fig trees and the people willing to help a newbie

There are a few Internet nurseries where you can order and receive good sized trees like Chicago Hearty. The sooner you have figs, the faster your kids will learn to like them. I've also read that other good beginner trees (hearty through Zone 6) are: Marseilles Black VS (MBVS), Adriatic JH, Improved Celeste, Malta Black, and Tacoma Violet.

Question for anyone. I have 3 rooted fig tree cuttings one is doing good starting to get leaves and some roots the other two nothing and looks like mold is starting to grow on the cutting. Shoul I get rid of those two so they don't affect the one that seems to be growing. See pic
