Firstly, I love the map Nick. I like it so much that I wonder if anyone even sees a purpose for a printable map. I can't think of a reason for one now. I would like to see if anyone has an interest in a shared database to record data? I know someone must know of a good web-based version we could use. I think it would be interesting later.

I've used Google docs for collaborative spreadsheet work. Anyone with invited permission can update it. It's super simple and is basically an embedded excel spreadsheet in a webpage. I'm envisioning user names in the left column and subsequent columns customized to our needs, I.e., location, seed type, soil mix, height, first leaf, bloom etc. Each sheet can be grouped by week, so even though we might all start at different times, week 1 is when you sow your seeds regardless of what date you start. One might still be updating week 1 at the same time someone else is updating week 3. Many people can be in the spreadsheet at the same time and there is no need to save. It auto saves every input at the time it's made. Just a thought!

I'd be willing to set it up. Just toss out suggestions on exactly which data we'd like to track.

I think you have the idea down perfectly. I recommend that we brainstorm the most important ones, and then leave some space for grower comments. You know guys, this might wind up being something we put into print someday. The information in this could be amazing. We'll never know until we do it, but I imagine we will be breaking some ground just by the fact that we have growers all over the planet. I think we should all briefly explain our environment on the first page too.

Halfway, I sent you a message containing the login info. This way when we get emails we can give everyone permission to update the spreadsheets and also they can then update the map / add photos to the map. This will hopefully help to bring location and growth even further into perspective. Tracy has already updated her icon on the map and added a cute caricature to her marker.

Happy to have you join Bob, the next step is the seeds. We are all conducting a study of sorts on how different climates and growing methods effect Adenium growth. I personally don't mind if you use a different seed variety but it adds another variable to the mix.

I ordered some other arabicum seeds, from Adenium Center, as well, so they should arrive any day now as well. I'll probably add them to the grid as well. Will be a good comparison to the golden bells.

Agreed Cynthia, would be a good comparison especially to see the different species grown in similar conditions.

I'm rewashing out my pots today, and am going to sterilize them with some bleach, just to be sure. My last batch was a bust in clean but reused pots. And I had such high hopes for them. Seeds from a different vendor, got my money back.

Hi folks, well better late than never eh? I toyed with the idea of joining in but was hesitant as I had previously thought .....'no more seeds, be content and just grow the DR plants you have got' .......but all this posting about the fun of a grow out of Golden Bells got me well and truly hooked. I gave in and managed to get some seeds, so hopefully I can still join in despite being a latecomer? They arrived in less than 48hours from an eBay order and will be planted when I've drunk my coffee! For the location info, I'm in North Staffordshire, UK

So Rick was having trouble editing the spreadsheet using his Yahoo account. It may be easier to edit if you use a Gmail account FYI. I am able to edit it using my Gmail account.

Thanks Tracy. I couldn't access the spreadsheet with my Ipad, I could see it but couldn't edit it, but it was live on the laptop so have added my info to date. The map was the same btw.

My propagator hasn't got a temp setting so it's either on or off, having probs regulating the overall temp to a consistent level. No signs of germination to date but seeds are still viable as in they haven't rotted....yet. Think I may pot them up into some mix tomorrow.

Gill if you don't mind me asking, were you using Safari on your iPad? I am curious if Chrome on the iPad allows a user to edit the spreadsheet and map since it is a product of Google? If someone is able to test this scenario please let me know. Otherwise I could charge my iPad up to test myself.

Yes it was Safari that I was using, no probs on the laptop with just regular Google. Nothing to report in the germination stakes as yet :/

This thread's been quiet since a week...while we are all going about planting our thai socos &flame seeds etc is anyone in the know of where our pal "Halfwaythere1: Ft. Lauderdale, FL USA". Have not seen /heard from her at all these past 3 weeks....hoping she got her seeds......!

It has been quiet Sinha. I am not sure where Halfwaythere has been, but I would imagine emmersed in daily life's duties.

This tends to happen with the grow outs as we get further along as the Adeniums slow growth lends itself to a slowing down of posting.

I'm here and I got my seeds!!!!! I'm so excited. I'm in the middle of a little home reno so I've been busy. We just had hurricane impact windows and doors installed. The house looks so nice without those ugly metal hurricane shutters.

I am too scared to plant these seeds until I get this mite problem under control. I have 6 grown adenium, most of which are under attack. Every leaf fell off and the new ones that come through are bright yellow and fall off. I have one plant with flowers only and NO leaves. It looks so weird. I have used neem oil and moved them in the shade but these suckers won't leave! Any suggestions? I have been doing a weekly-weakly dynagro fertilization. The trees look great, just bald. Also, 2 of my pots were infested with ants. It has been dry here and when I watered one of them I noticed hundreds of ants carrying eggs flowing out of the pot like lava. Disgusting. It's a constant battle here with bugs!!! I took one tree out and flushed out the rocks. It dropped what few leaves it had. The other one is still a luxury ant condominium. Having these beautiful plants in Florida is like having kids lol. So much work.

Glad to hear things are good with you and those pesky mites are a true hassle. Hope they fade away soon.

The tree looks fantastic! Did you get the pot from Lucky Sumo? I ask because I have one just like it! The painting might be just a hair different. Mine came from Lucky Sumo.

Glad to hear you got your seeds. Sorry to hear about the mites. I am battling white flies at the moment and hesitant to use any type of chemicals on such young seedlings.

Halfwaythere for mites you are going to have to alternate with neem oil and spinosad. They get immune to these products. Also as lovely as the flowers are you need to buy a sprayer for your hose and start blasting them to clean them off. You will loose leaves and flowers by blasting them off. Mites hate water they thrive on dry conditions. I had mites with my hibiscus and it is truly a battle. There is also this spray in a can I bought for mites. You can find this online or at a hydroponic store. You need to be careful and wear protective clothing.

Thank you very much kerry! That is exactly the info I needed. It's been raining a lot so between that and the neem oil it looks like they moved out. Lots of leafing going on! I do notice that it's an all-out attack on everything in the yard during dry spells.

addicted, yes I got it from Lucky Sumo (Living Sculpture Sanctuary). I am the one who lives right down the road from it. I promised I'd go back in October and take pics and October is nearly gone. I'm going to call him tomorrow to see when he's available for a tour.
