There are places in Florida that have some hummers year round and other areas where their season occurs through the fall and winter months. I`am a long way from Florida(my last hummer seen two days ago)but I know from reading other posters` experiences in that area that planting more favourite hummingbird plants goes a long way toward attracting and keeping them. Things like firespike, porterweed, coral honeysuckle and a host of other tropical plants that I can only dream of have all proven to be most helpful, often over and above the use of any feeders in attracting and keeping hummingbirds around. I believe there is an old thread from about 2006 where poster ``beckygardener`` from east central Florida was working on building up her gardens in order to lure them in. She was ultima tely successful. There are several other Floridians from various parts of the state who have also been successful so let your parents know to just hang in there.
