New sprinkler platform!

Necessity is the mother of invention. I think I mentioned that I have been ill most of the summer and therefore did not feel up to standing outside and watering my garden. Also, the mosquito infestation outside is the worst I've ever seen. Seemingly, they sniff Off! on you and cast down 6 gauntlets. "I LAUGH at your pathetic efforts to dissuade me from piercing your skin and helping myself to your bloooood!" This definitely limits how much time you want to spend outside.

Therefore, I have been using a sprinkler to water my 2 garden areas. But that came with its own problems. The Obligatory Bushes interfered with the spray reaching the whole garden. Placing the sprinkler atop the O.B.s worked for a few minutes until the oscillating movements caused the sprinkler to burrow deeper into the O.B.s on one side and spray the building instead of the garden. My downstairs neighbor merely joked that it "saved her from having to wash the windows!".

Enter the dragon....I mean, platform. I had a plastic tray already which the sprinkler fit on, and Home Depot had lots of 1/2" PVC pipe and various angled adjuncts. I quickly designed a platform which has legs extending to the ground on one side and short legs to jam into the O.B.s to "cement" the platform in place by the density of the branches. I placed the sprinkler atop the plastic tray, which was velcroed to the PVC frame and velcroed it once again to a stake firmly tamped into the soil, to keep it from moving. I got my downstairs neighbor to witness to inauguration of the Sprinkler Platform. It was and remains a complete success. The water from the sprinkler neatly reaches just beyond the outer edges of the garden and the width of the garden is adequately covered as well. The oscillations have no effect on the position of the sprinkler, so it stays steady as a rock.

Success!
