Your kitchen cabinets and countertops are gorgeous! For your back splash (which is too dark), I would recommend stainless steel subway tiles. This would unite and highlight all of your colors and textures in a sleek and cohesive way.

I would not change the backsplash until after installing under cabinet LED lighting. You can't really tell whether it goes or not as you can't see it well enough.

You will need the extra lighting anyway with a dark countertop.

I thought about stainless but thought it might be too much. There is another wall and a wet bar that matches the kitchen.

The most inexpensive way to go would be to get some white or silver accessories and place them on your countertop.

An inexpensive alternative to removing the time would be covering up the tile with a mock silver tin that comes in sheets on a roll or tiles and have applied directly over your tile- that would brighten things up!

If you can afford it, I would pull it down and get a design professionals help.
