Need quick ideas before buying a house

I saw this beautiful house with an overload of wood in the ceiling of the living room and the dining room. It has a nice rustic look. But the wood over the fireplace all the way up to the vaulted ceiling seems like one too many. Do suggest what I can do to minimize the excessive wood look of this house at a budget. FYI I'm a design novice new to the game.

I'm not a design person but the first thing I notice is there isn't anything that pulls it all together. I actually love the look but I think painting the walls would go a long way in making it more pleasing to the eye. My preference would be warmer colors. The colors they have now are clashing.

I agree the wood above the fireplace looks odd my guess is you could remove that part and drywall there.

Thank you Patricia. I was thinking something along the same lines too. Either drywall or extend the stone from the fireplace all the way up to the ceiling. The angle on the wall above the fireplace may make it difficult and I dont know how much it is going to cost but it is something we are thinking really hard about before putting in an offer.

Paint would be fine to suppress the wood look. Look at the floor plan and other things that are harder to change such as the fireplace location.

What a great house!

We think the wood ceiling and floor are nice, natural materials and an expensive part of the construction. You could consider changing the wood finishes. More neutral tones of wood, such as a light grey would help the space look simpler and the ceiling less heavy. Or the ceiling could be white and the floor could be a light hazel tone. The neutral palette would be simpler than the current yellow-toned wood. Here are a few images for inspiration.
