I'll also add, I checked the crown and the roots and everything looks intact and healthy dosn there.

It doesn't look all that bad. But you really need to tell the readers here where you are and your growing conditions and is the plant growing new roots.

I'm going to ask a question and try to answer it.

What do the blooms on this plant look like?

Now, I'm going to venture a guess that they are not the typical white or lavender "dinner plate" sized blooms. My guess is that they are perhaps not quite as large or well shaped or as abundant on the spike as most of the Phal's you usually see.

The reason for this is I suspect there are mottled leaved species not far in the background of this plant

There are a number of species Phal's that have mottled leaves (green and silverfish colors in their leaves). These species were used and reused in the breeding of many of todays modern large bloomed hybrids. If these species were used recently in the breeding of your plant (that is not many generations in the past) the chance is good that the blooms will carry the smallish size of these species, and the leaf coloration will frequently come through also.

Even if these species were used many generations back in the history of your plant, the patterning on the leaves will occasionally show up.

Some of the species that come to mind quickly are stuartiana, philippinensis, and schilleriana. Google these and see what I am saying.

I don't believe you have an unhealthy plant, just one that is showing traits from some of its ancestors. Often these traits do not show up until the plant is fully mature.

That's my guess, and I'm sticking to it........☺

Hi guys,

I live in GA, they are inside all day and are constantly growing around 78-80.

The spike has been gone for several months but a new spike appears to be growing, so I don't really know what the conditions of the blooms will be.

My biggest concern is the black/dark spots that have formed it seems overnight. But I will continue to just monitor it and make sure it doesn't get worse.

Do you have a picture of the entire plant? The leaf doesn't look bad to me. You might be seeing something more.
