Parrot cage decor question

This is a serious question! :) My dining/great room is very visible from many areas of the house as the back side of the house is all windows and it is an open floor plan. I need help figuring out what to do with these three cages.

I have three small parrots. They each have a cage in the dining room/great room to eat on. Originally, I had just the two older birds (Rocky, Zeek) and I bought the two larger stainless steel cages on CL for them to eat on. They do not go in the cages as they are not adequate for birds to live in. Then I got Scout (rescue bird) and I bought the smaller stainless steel cage on ebay for her.

Today, Rocky had fun playing on Scout's smaller cagetop. I realized that this might be a better fit for her and perhaps I should buy one for Zeek also. The problem is that they dont make the smaller cage in stainless steel anymore. They are only made in white, platinum grey, or ruby red.

My questions are:

-Do you think the current setup looks better than three smaller cages might? If so, I can try to rearrange the top of Rocky's cage to see if she likes it better. Or should I go with three of the smaller cages?

- The only colors avaiable for the smaller cage are platinum grey, ruby red or white. Any opinions on which colors would look all right, given that one cage would be stainless steel?

- Or any other ideas? I dont really like the bird stands, and my guys seem to like have a platform surface.

Thank you!

I know your question is serious as is my reply. :) I don't have an opinion on which cage you get but you know what I don't like - I don't like the stands that look like the base of a dentist's chair. I like the square base - I just think it suits your home better. So I would get squares bases for all the stands. I don't like the white.

I would look at the choice as a colour decorating choice. Which colour would go best with your fireplace and floor. Which stainless steel one is being kept?

Thanks bfenton! So you are saying you dont like the 2 current tall cages with the pole for the stand? That is a big help. Maybe the platinum grey? Unfortunately all three cages cant match in color as Scout's cage is stainless steel and they dont make that any more. I could get a red one, a grey one, and have the stainless steel cage...but I think all the same would be better.

Do they have to go on separate carts? Or could you find one long narrow table for all three to sit on side by side?

If they can't all be the same, I think I would do two the same and put the one that is different in the middle. And I would make them look very different, not close enough in finish that it looks like you tried to match and failed.

Thanks crl. That is a great idea, but they each want to be an only bird and cannot be trusted together. Zeek got out of his cage once and he and Scout fought throught the bars. Scout lost part of her toe. :( I have to keep them separated.

I could get two of the ruby red ones...here is a pic of the cage in a bigger model.

I would take the playtop off. I need the room to put their lunch and dinner bowls on the top of the cage.

I'm afraid nothing will look good. Maybe I'll just leave it as is.

If they don't go in the cages and you would remove the playtops, do they not sell a cart or something flat just for feeding?

I've had birds and bird cages over the years. The platinum gray, even though it won't match the stainless steel, would be less visible than white or red. Birdcages are never going to be a fashion statement in a house. I don't think it matters whether they match or not. I would use or buy whatever makes the birds happy.

I used to use strips of wax paper to line the vanes around the cage to keep the poop off the vanes. I used small clips to hold them in place one on each vane.

Aw, poor scout. I have to have a dog crate for my golden retriever so I sympathize.

Thank you all! They very affectionate, intelligent and social animals.

Thanks allison0704. I cant find any carts with flat surfaces made for birds. I cant find anything at ikea that I can convert either. :(

Thank you so much lukkiirish. They are my babies. :) I have always been bothered by the lack of nice looking cages. I had at one point spoke to a welder friend about designing a nicer looking cage, but never followed through. I usually do the wax paper too. I ran out. I thought I was the only one who does that!

Thanks graywings! I think am leaning towards getting two of the platinum ones.

Do you all think the lower profile platinum smaller cages will look better than what I have now?

Here are pics of their regular cages. They are in a separate room, but when I come home from work they call and cry for me. The ones I am posting about are just for eating on top of, so we can all eat together and they can be out from me.

No comment on your cages just a comment on Rocky. He looks so much like a parrot I had years ago....but mine was Kiko. He would give me kisses, snuggle with me, let me scratch his head, and he could talk. I am not surprised your birds call to you when you come home. Some day I would like a small one again.

I've had parrots for years, and I always bought them the biggest cages that I could afford. I think your current set up is fine.

I certainly know nothing about birds or cages, but have you tried searching out of the US for stainless steel cages? Europe certainly has a more contemporary/modern design aesthetic than the US does.

@erinsean: Rocky is actually a girl. I found this out when I had her dna tested at age 13. She is a maroon belly conure, but she looks very similar to the more common green cheek conure. They are endearing little animals! Most dont speak much, so that is cool that Kiko did. It sounds like you miss him!

    Thanks cacocco bird! :)

markb- you are right for design that Europe is ahead of the US, but for stainless steel cage manufacturering, I think the best cage co. is actually in the US. I bought the three larger cages from this company. Unfortuanately, they are very expensive, so I dont want to buy anymore.

Thank you everyone! This has been a huge help. I think I will either keep it as is or buy 2 more smaller platimum nina cages. I think the profile of the smaller cages will look less obvious than the current setup, so I am leaning this way.

I have mostly bigger birds so my opinion is formed by how they live. Your feeder cages are not used for anything. How about the trays with stand and bowls? I have one, I don't care for it that much but it works for treats and they can't get down by themselves. I have a couple of others with a ladder leaning against the post and no big tray for my Mulaccan to come and go as she pleases. There are a bazillion here.

Thanks imhappy&iknowit! I think they wont like the stands. :( I actually give them dinner in one big bowl and nutriberries, treats and seed in the other big bowl so they need space for this. My main problem is the caique who will not sit still. As soon as he is done he starts crying and calling to come sit with me (ie eat my dinner and hop all over the table and me) . Unfortunately, I have created co-dependent little monsters, but maybe the cage with foot toys on it and a couple perches will keep them busy. I'm now thinking about the bigger avian adventures cage - chiquita. It looks the same but is a few inches bigger.

    The bigger the better.

cacocobird - thanks! These are just to eat on, but I figure maybe I could roll them outside in nice weather. The nina cages would be too small for the caique and really also for the nanday for very long periods of time. Their normal cages are all 4 ft. x 2.5 ft. I agree with bigger the better, especially for the caique! :)
