Dunno :-) I have joined various plant societies previously but they have always been local chapters where the networking and discussions at the regular meetings were the primary benefit. IMO, the $35 membership fee seems a bit steep for in essence just a quarterly newsletter. I would be more inclined if they too had regional chapters where one could attend meetings, maybe with speakers, and the ability to interact with local, like-minded individuals. Just my thought......

I have to agree with you gardengal. Being a novice, I would most benefit from being able to actually speak and interact with people who knew their stuff. I'll find something to join eventually.

I like yourself an e relative beginner in the world of Japanese Maples....

As Gardengal rightly mentions the Annual Fees can be a little excessive for the returns given to the Member.More often than not it requires Members travelling sometimes 100s of Miles for Specific Meetings or Functions

It would be a Great thing for Regional,Specific Zone JM Lovers to Unite and share their interests and possibly arrange visits to Gardens,Seminars etc.

No Society is necessary for such things,simply the Imagination of a Group of JM Lovers

They are an inspiration to all and its a Lovely thing they take the time out to try and advise

The Gardenweb Maples Board is like a book in itself.We are getting vast amounts of Knowledge offered by keen Gardeners & Japanese Maple Lovers who want to spread their experience onto upcoming J.Maple Lovers like myself.....
