Some plants grow faster than others, check the seed package for details of when to start...you have to time seed starting to your last frost date...there is a bit of room either way. Starting too early with some plants and you run the risk of them becoming overgrown and unwieldy. You also have to consider your space requirements, the earlier you start, the more times you need to repot to the next size.
