Hi, could you please indicate where the distance of 7'-4" is measured on this plan?

Luminosus Designs, the 7'4" is measured from the counter (sink side) to the counter (fridge side).

A cabinet maker we are working with drew up this design

We decided not to go with Ikea because the bid of local cabinetmaker is similar. We plan to separate fridge from stove/oven with work space in between. And add a pantry.

As for goals, the MAIN goal is to remove the lowered ceiling and old fixture to put in canned lighting. That means taking out cabinets. We need new counters, appliances, and I'd love big drawers instead of having to do headstand to reach pans. Thanks for your ideas!!

I think you have some great ideas. I would hire a kitchen designer to come to your home and give you a consultation for what is possible. You do not wnat to spend a lot of money and get the same kitchen.

Some possibilities I see are

A wall of windows on the sink side, built in fridge that is counter depth or bump out wall behind fridge on outside wall so it will fit flush. Refrigerators these days are 36 inches deep minimum and you do not have a lot of room.

Consider putting your stove on the peninsula or creating an angle at the peninsulat and dropping in your cooktop. Gang up your pantry and you wall oven next to each other for sleekness.

You have two peninsulas and I think maybe you could get rid of one to open the space on one end of kitchen or the other.

At least put in a bigger bigger window and lose one of the upper cabinets.

Do you want a lot of drawers or would you rather have some cabinets with pull out trays; I have the trays on my lower cabinets and they stay so much neater than a drawer. You need both.

I would combine the broom closet and the waste basket area and the pantry area. two long cabinets cost more than one big cabinet. Just divide the interior for long storage and shelves. It could even be a simple closet instead of cabinetry for cost savings.

I would get rid of one of the penninsulas and put the fridge in the space and bump the wall outside; fridge is 36 inches deep at least. Do you want it in your kitchen area with people opening it all the time. It is the most used appliance in the kitchen.

Open up the area over the stove to beautiful hood with backsplash going all the way up.

Deep set the fridge.

All you are doing is ending up with new cabinets in the same lay out.

Hire a Kitchen Designer to give you some ideas that will make you happy not functional. Just sayin. I am sure you cabinet maker makes divine cabinets but you need some style in this kitchen.

I would combine the pantry/broom closet and put the wine fridge and glasses on opposite wall.

If you can spend 30000 then you can spend 500 for a few hours with a kitchen pro that will maximize your space.

PS I think this post is double posted but you will get alot more ideas this way. Sorry if I am coming off pushy, but you are spending a lot of money and you should have some ideas and options to explore to make your kitchen look 21st century instead of 1980! And these are just opinions that you can take and leave. haha

So glad you decided to go with a cabinetmaker. I love the symmetry in his layout, especially how all the upper cabinet doors are the same size :)
