You can definitely do something similar with The Shade Store top down bottom up shades. Lots of standard fabrics - linens, cottons, wools. Good luck!

on these it doesn't look like the strings are showing from the valence to the top of the shade in the bottom up position... is it just the lighting? all the Shade Store ones have the string showing. The only place i have seen these with the strings on the edges of the window are in Germany... I wish I could find them here!
