Susan, they usually do a sale of some sort after the first of the year, whether it's a buy a set assortment of 6 at a set reduced price or buy X get 1 free. It just depends. The problem is, if you wait, you may miss out on something you have really been longing for. I typically get a shipment in Oct and then wait until the possibility of freezing bulbs is past (typically an April delivery).

Who else do you buy from? There are some other reliable (sort of) vendors in the USA.

Thanks! I am in Canada. I put my order in thru RC already. I ordered Evergreen, Papillio, Santa Rosa, Quito & Santiago. I know i can grab a few usual ones at a local box store as well. But, if RC has a sale then i will save my pennies! I have also started a batch of seeds. They have sprouted and are growing well. These are very addicting..

That is already good news, and you are making a good choice with "Santiago". The number of florets appears to be rather low (mostly 3 or 4, trumpet shaped, intense cherry-red with the very best white midrib I have seen in a DIPloid, and with a slight fragrance) but it is capable of producing 3 scapes from a rather small bulb, and then it will produce many new leaves which indicate at least 2 scapes for the next season. I have little doubt that it was bred from "Striped Panther" the bloom of which comprises up to 8 trumpet-shaped florets per scape which produce a stronger fragrance, yet their color pattern is quite "trivial" as compared to "Santiago" which I considered a Noble Floral Jewel in my hut... (I obtained mine in March from the Keukenhof exhibition in Lisse, The Netherlands)
