what is the heat loss up through a sun tunnel light? do any manufacturers have statistics on this? would it be energy efficient in northern vt?

Pamela ~ the Solatube brand tube skylights are used in hurricane zones.

Hello retic. Thanks for the question. VELUX SUN TUNNEL skylight products with a U factor of .55 or less meet Energy Star requirements for your zone. Here's a link to the testing performance data - the SUN TUNNEL skylight data is on the last page:

Look for the U-factor (U-value), which measures the rate of heat loss. Lower U-factors indicate better insulating properties.

Are the sun tunnel sky lights made with impact glass? I'm thinking of using them in our south FL home and want to be sure they'll stand up to hurricanes.
