I was curious and did a Google search, then did another for New York. Found these guys right off the bat but I know absolutely nothing about their company. Maybe you could call them and they could even recommend someone closer to you.

Perhaps you need to call a flexible old house carpenter rather than a "gutter guy". Hanging gutters isn't rocket surgery, and you don't need the machine that spins out miles of K-style gutters. Most "gutter guys" only do one thing, you need to find someone with basic skills who is not a one trick pony.

The biggest limitation of half round gutters is the small capacity unless you have them custom made in copper. Many roofs are too large to use them. The eave must be designed for them too. They can be hung or sit in brackets. What is on the house now?

The house never had very old and very dilapidated galvanized steel. We are fine with using galvanized steel. We have the gutters we took down--they have a long (4-5"?) spike that goes into your fascia and then cradles the gutter with some braided wire on top. The fascia is so beveled and thick and sloped backwards towards the house--not a flat surface anywhere. Plus, it's painted an old house super dark green that no one has in gutter color, so I was leaning towards this antique brown finish that looks like copper after it's aged a bit.

Have a couple of leads I'm working right now and will keep you all posted about what I find!

You're right about not calling gutter companies. What a waste of time that has been. It has to be historic home roofers. Even though we don't have a slate roof, these seem to be the people that know half round gutters the best.

Also found out that my neighbor four doors down did galvanized half round installation himself, so I may bribe him to come over and help us.

rwiegand nailed it. Gutter guys have become a commodity type of business. They buy coil and a gutter machine with only the parts to bend "K" style gutters. The uinstallers are usually glorified labors and no one including the owners has a desire to do anything other than "K" style. Not many people want the half round style sand they do not want to be bothered with the investment and the learning curve.

My one thought that hasn't been mentioned yet - how about renting a cherry picker to diy it? It will cost a bit but maybe less than the labor of installation and it will keep you off ladders and safely enclosed!

I just finished working with an amazing gutter/roof company that specializes in historic buildings. They are MA based but started out in upstate NY. I believe they still travel there, or if not they probably know of someone who would do a good job... Olde Mohawk Historic Preservation. Awesome company.

Happy to hear you are sticking with half round gutters instead of the modern kind that will mess up the look of your house. One thought on finding an installer is to contact your State Historic Preservation Office and obtain their list of qualified Preservation Architects. Contact them for a referral.

Pretty normal around here. We do them when requested and the guys have standard pricing on them.

If you consider DIY, egutter.com seems like a really good source of half round gutters and miters! I love this style of gutter. I am a modernist at heart and these always sing to my soul!
