I think what makes the room unique are the stained windows and French door. I would capitalize on that by having a faux artist make the mantle the same dark stain to make the room come together. I would remove the lamps from the top and place them on tables elsewhere in the room or other rooms.
Next I would select a light gray - a tone pulled from the stone fireplace and pain the walls as well as the wall above the fireplace at the Palladian window. The current wall color fights for attention with the stained window trim. Then I think you will have a very calming, flowing room for the eye to take in.
