I am still looking for a Dorset Horn! What are the sticks for?

I just saw Dorset Horn seeds for sale some where, but they are not cheap. You have to buy one seed pod. Sometimes you can get 1/2 a seed pod. One seed pod has an average of 100-120 seeds in each. They say you might get a 3% chance of a Dorset Horns tree.

For me this would mean buying 3 or more seeds pods. To get a possible 3 out of 100 seeds and have to have room for them is not practical for me.

I just googled that. They look like Hindu rope hoya. And I don't like those odds either, Rick. The only one of us with that much space is Tangula and her twenty zillion acres. It does look like the trait shows up early, from DH's photos. So if I were so inclined (not), I'd probably sow them then ditch the rest within a couple of months.

A hundred seeds though! Sheesh.

I have never heard of Dorset Horn Adenium. I just googled it and wowowowow! Gorgeous and weird. I might try some.

I'm curious about how many PNW seeds were sown by DH_A to get the Dorset horn adeniums seedlings in the picture posted?

Thank you for your reply DH_A. I am fascinated and therefore have more questions, I hope you do not mind. All of the seedlings in the photo above came from a single set of twin seed pods? Or did you have to sow many more pods of seeds to get this number of Dorset Horns?

When they first germinate, how long before you can tell that it is truly a DHA? Do you know immediately or does the plant have to be a certain age?

they don't arent cheap if you gonna buy the plant itself already, they can go for $100 for a medium sized one, and the cheapest is $20 thumb nail size

just thailand, the breeder in thailand has stabilized seeds, they dont come cheap, pods for DH they only set around 10 to 20 seeds at most,

addicted2plants Southern IL - From twin seed pods you can get about 3-5% of DHA plant.
You can seen first couple leaf. First couple leaf will polishing, horizontal and dark green more than normal plant. You will ensure when see second couple leaf. It small and curve.

Dorset Horns seeds are not cheap and you have to buy a whole seed pod.

They will only give a 3% chance of Dorset Horns characteristics.

Realy like them, but not wanting to grow that many.

I purchased from Rinoa the Black Horns. I assumed it was a dorset horn but I might be wrong. Does anyone know? Rick??

Pagan I do have the room, my biggest problem is I work so many hours that I don't always have the time to do as much with my plants as I would like.

Love your seedlings Dh-a. They look so healthy. I really like the ones in the second photo that are short and the leaves look all crinkled.

Ladylotus, I had seen Rinoa's listing for Black Horns and the leaves have the same characteristics, but the stem/branch growth is too much. The Dorset Horns have a very compact growth habit from what I have seen of acquaintances.

Very tempting though. Looking forward to seeing yours.
