Counter Templating Tuesday

So, my counter is being templated on Tuesday. I'm gathering my thoughts so I can answer any questions and have my preferences clearly decided. My countertop is quartz Caesarstone Blue Lagos 4350 - so, no concern with veining or patterns.

So far:

-(undermount, SS) sink as close to the front of the counter as possible (I learned this, here.)

-Faucet centered in back.

-Soap dispenser at back left of sink

-DW corner gently curved at end of sink run (DW is only place counter won't end in a wall or an appliance. I don't want a sharp corner (my hips will most likely hit it regularly) and I also don't want a big round corner - if it's easily adjustable, I have a stool with corners he can use for comparison.)

- Counter creates window sill.

Is there anything else that makes sense for me to think about before his arrival? Does my above list make sense?

Your list sounds good to me, sorry I can't be more helpful... I didn't know about having the sink as close to the front of the counter though, why is that?

Standard overhang or a little deeper? I think standard is 1.5" but we did 2" because our hardware stuck out further than the counter...that extra 1/2" put them under the counter overhang.

Oh...also what kind of reveal on your sink.

Momof2 - My understanding is that the closer the sink is to the front, the less you have to reach to turn on faucet & even to wash dishes. Imagine a sink set back from the front 6" or even a foot - you can imagine how uncomfortable & inconvenient that would be! That said it's got to be far back enough to sit in the cabinet, and you probably don't want a very thin (and therefore weak/prone to breaking) strip of quartz/marble, etc, at the front.

Dcward89 - That might negate having the sink close to the edge. I think I'm fine with standard - though making the overhand deeper never occurred to me.Good thinking about confirming the end. My KD's initial counter contract specified something else, & I had to have her change that to eased.

Oh, Dcward - I'm pretty sure zero reveal for the sink!

Is he doing the blacksplash of the same material? Where do you want the bs to end? Is this person installing the sink into the countertop? Be sure to ask how it will be affixed. There have been too many pictures of sink "failures" because the installer only siliconed it in place. I think Joe is a big fan of sinksetters. Do you know what edge you want on the countertop? Is there only countertop on this side?

Practigal - no quartz backsplash - tile only. Good thought about sink. Truth is, I'm not sure if he's installing that or not. Will ask. There's countertop on both sides, eased edge, and NO SEAM! (there's got to be at least one plus to a very small kitchen!)

Hi Carrie, I was thinking of the countertop on the other wall....one final thought, do you need an air gap for the dw, in some locales it is mandatory....

Practigal - what are you asking about the countertop on the other wall? Not sure I understand what you're asking. Don't know what an air gap is...

I asked to have our sink installed as far forward as possible, too. I've seen sinks in kitchens on remodeled home tours that had 6" of counter in front of the sink. I did a test run of leaning over the sink and imagining myself lifting up a big pot full of water. Ugh! Just thinking about it made my back hurt. Additionally, that much counter in front of the sink pushes the faucet so far to the back that if you don't have a generous counter behind the sink (as you do, Carrie), you could end up with what a CMKBD friend of mine calls a "faucet wedgie." That's her term for what happens when you wind up with not enough space behind the sink to turn the faucet handles.

I have 1-1/2" counter overhang and 3-3/4" of counter in front of my sink that has 1/8" positive reveal (wanted to be able to rest a cutting board on the sink lip). I thought about going with a deeper overhang to extend over the cab handles but I'm glad I didn't so that I have that little bit extra room for getting things out of my top drawer.
