Should I plant Incarnata soon, or wait until mid-winter?

I have a bunch of A. incarnata seeds from a patch I planted in my mom's yard. I think the best way to get others to grow milkweed is to give them plants already growing that they can just stick in the ground. So, I want to start a large number of plants in pots in my yard. Normally, I wintersow, but I have seeds, containers and growing medium ready now. Do you think I might get significant loss to mold by planting too early? Or, should I take advantage of what I have and just get started? Do you think they might sprout too early and be killed when winter sets in? Thoughts?

Martha, have you already cold stratified these seed? If not, do you think they will germinate now before winter sets in?

Mary, that was my concern. I have not stratified them. I think I've decided to wait. I have plenty of other things to work on between now and after the winter holidays are over.

A. Incarnata has a pretty short strat period-only 30 days. Not bad compared to some perennials.

how are they doing, martha? i haven't started my winter (or any seed) sowing yet. i'm curious how they have managed w/ the weird weather pattern we have had this fall/winter...

I have just begun wintersowing this week. This is later than I normally start, but we did have a very odd, warm early winter. I'm trying to get as much done this week as possible, because I start a new job next week that requires an hour-long commute. Eventually, I will be able to relocate closer to the job, but it will be inconvenient for a while.
