    Ok so what's horrible?

Without knowing what you want to do exactly, I can say that if it were me, I'd remove both the shutters and those drape holders and let the drapes hang free to simply frame the window. They're hung with grommets so they're easy to open and close for night time privacy. In other words, just edit it down to the minimum and it will look a lot lighter and brighter.

I agree that they don't look horrible in the pic at all. And they probably look even better when the blinds are open and light floods the room. What don't you like about them?

I like them! I just don't like them pulled back as they are. Let them hang loose and open the blinds to let in the sun. I think they're unfussy and sophisticated.

I like them too!!! Just let them hang loose. I like the way the pattern on the bottom echoes the blinds.

Thanks!! Maybe it's because I've been looking at them for 7 years! I'll def pull them down from the sides and open the blinds and take another pic :) maybe I'm not as bad with decor as I thought ;) lol

I think they look nice too, tie in well with your bedding. But maybe they aren't your style?

OR are you wanting a little more color? I see a fun turquoise lampshade, maybe color is what you are seeking!

It's hard to tell in the photo, is that window actually a window seat?

If you don't like them, I might try a print - something that brings some other colors in (such as the turquoise). I agree with extending the rod.

I wish it was!!! But nope it's a regular window! I'll re take the photo with it extended and not tied back :)

Do you even use those destinygirl or are they just for decoration. They are horrible, and they look to me to be unnecessary, too. Take them completely away and just have the blinds.

I would personally would prefer different drapes- probably something with a pattern and some color with the plain bedding, but I don't think I would call them horrible...

do you close them every night? I love a really dark room at night and having drapes up over blinds really makes a big difference!!

I am with the people who say take down the blinds and take those tiebacks away...let the drapes hang straight down. Without the blinds your drapes could easily be pulled shut at night. IF you still need blinds and it is in the budget, get white ones...black is just too stark, in my opinion.

Lol out of town until Saturday will post then

    ok!!!

I really like the drapes! I do not want to be unkind, but to my eyes the windows will never look good as long as those blinds are there. Be sure to use lamps instead of the overhead light.

The OP said the blinds can't change

So curtains unhooked and rods lengthened and blinds open

    Ignore the wrinkles hahah

I was watching for you to post! You know, I don't think the drapes are bad. Actually, I think they work well and it looks so much better now that they frame the window, even with the blinds still intact. I know you said the blinds can't go, but as you can see from the responses, you may want to rethink that. Or can you open them so they are hidden behind the drapes?

Actually I really like the drapes, especially unhooked. As others have said, its the blinds that dont work.

Can you pull the blinds up? They'll be hidden then during the day.

When we purchased our new home 12 years ago, since I had a lot of black accents in the family room and kitchen, I decided on black wooden blinds to add interest to the rooms. It didn't take long, however, to realize that they made the rooms look dreary and dark, not to mention the visible dust that collected on them. Much to my hubby's dismay (they were very expensive), 5 years later, I took them down and replaced them with roman shades. Made all the difference in the world to lighten the look of the room. If money is an issue to replace them, you can get inexpensive bamboo roman shades.

Thanks! I know it's the blinds but they were a fortune and have a lifetime warranty. I will eventually start to replace them but just not right now. However, if I was going to change them what would I put there?

Nothing! That's the point, you have a gorgeous window, some beautiful curtains that can be closed for privacy. In this case less is more.

I agree that if you don't need anything else other than the curtains for privacy, don't put anything up. You could take the blinds down to see what you think and always put them back if you're not happy. I wouldn't let having a lifetime warranty on something I didn't care for in the first place affect my decision.

I think the problem is the dichotomy between the curtains and the bedding. The curtains, which I like, are very tailored, and the bedding looks rumpled, a very casual look some people like. What if instead of changing the curtains, you changed the bedding to something more tailored? Also, make sure your blinds are level and match at the bottoms. It will give you a more cohesive look.
