I think I'll go for the chaste tree in that corner. Do you know how tall and wide they get? The seed details said 15 feet wide but I've read that before on plants that only get around 7-8 feet wide.

there is a huge one near me, easily 15' tall and wide. It's on an irrigated lot so that may help. They do like a lot of water. I thought you were looking for a shrub "....a plant for a hot corner". If you are interested in a tree, what about a a palo verde? Desert willow? If a shrub will work, I love hop bushes. Fast growing, lush, evergreen, drought tolerant.

A chaste tree is a
wonderful choice! You are absolutely right-give the tree enough room to grow by
placing it at least 5 feet from the wall. Chaste trees are considered a low
water use tree and tolerates the constant sun. A chaste can get rather large! I
just visitied one that I installed 7 years ago and it is huge! (see pic
attached)

Another one of my
favorites is the large leaf texas olive. It is prolific with
white flowers most of the year and beautiful large leaves. It also is a
low water use tree. It is best to get it in 15 gal. and you can train
it up into a tree. My neighbors always ask about mine and I have been
incorporating it into lots of landscapes lately. This tree stays much
smaller so is a good alternative if you feel the chaste is too big :). Good

I love Texas olives too, they're just so pretty, especially when trimmed as a tree. They would be an excellent choice too. Keep us posted iAndy!
