Bama_Joe got this figured out long ago, no doubt, but I'll comment, since it's a good question. I think the answer is the 200 ft limit applies to the longest run of dripper line (whether drip tubing with in-line emitters or blank tubing fitted with individual emitters) that is being fed by the hose or faucet. However, it's important to understand that a "run" includes any "child" dripper lines that branch out from a "parent" dripper line (and any "children" of those "children," etc.). Now, if you have a 1/2" distribution or supply line (no emitters) attached to your hose or faucet, and that supply line feeds multiple runs of dripper lines, you only need to be concerned about the single, longest run of dripper line, and the length of the supply line itself does not count.

This is what I've concluded from pages 10-12 of Rain Bird's XF Series Dripline design guide. You might want to interpret that yourself.

I should add that 200 feet is just a general and pretty safe rule of thumb. The actual maximum length depends on how much water the run of dripper line is able to release--which depends on the flow rate and number of emitters--and how much water the water source is able to supply--which depends on the available water pressure (and, less significantly, how far the water has to travel through pipe or hose to the irrigation zone). See Table 6 on page 21 of the above Rain Bird design guide.

On a 200' run with 1/2" PVC I will be drilling 2 holes every 18" to spray, will 40 PSI sourse be enough to cover a 6' wide flower bed?
