Mailing a cutting, advice PLEASE! TIA!

Due to send a package Monday that includes a Plumeria cutting. As intimately familiar as I am with other plants, Plumeria isn't one of them. Mine was started as a cutting I received in person, and I remember it leaking a *LOT* of sap, and that's been my only experience with cuttings of this particular plant.

Thinking I should cut the piece I'll be sharing tomorrow so it has about 24 hours to quit leaking sap? But maybe it would be better to cut it today?

What about the leaves? They're way too big to fit in a reasonable sized box. Should I try to fold them toward the tip of the branch, or cut half of each one off?

I was going to wrap gently in newspaper with the cut end exposed to continue drying while in transit. Yes, no?

Sorry for asking at last minute, this trade just came into being, and I want to send successfully. TY so much for any anecdotes!

I haven't sent any, but when I've ordered them this is what worked for me to get started faster.

I would cut the cutting now and strip all the big leaves. Let the end dry for a bit before packaging. If it a single tip wrap in paper so it can't roll around in shipping. If it's a multiple tip make sure the box is big enough to not break the cutting when usps smashes your box.

Hi Tiffany!!

Plumeria45 gave great advice.. I would cut the leaves off of the cutting leaving part of the stems ( one inch) they will fall off naturally in a week or so. Don't cut the leaves off to close to the main stem. When I take a cutting, I will dip the fresh cut into rooting hormone and it will stop the latex from leaking more. It's good for the cutting to retain that latex.

I would use bubble wrap or newspaper to make sure it's secure in the box.

Agree with both above. I like to to dip the fresh cut end in rooting powder to get a good protective crust on it.
