I do that with a cheap bucket.

Find me a cheap bucket that filters water and keeps it out of the storm drain and I'll take 10!

Where I live in the Sonoran Desert, some new houses are plumbed to take shower water (gray water) straight to the garden. For houses that can't be retrofitted, collecting warm-up water in a bucket is a great idea. Although in my case, that will mean dragging a bucket through the living room. :-( Thanks for suggesting this!
