Ohhhhh nnigrt, you make me smile! If I really thought they were ready to have a comeback...... but you know how they are 'poo-poo-ed' everywhere!

I do think that you are right about that piece being too thin at the top(if I cut it). That did enter my mind which further made me think of getting rid of it.

I really don't want to be sorry I did it. I do think (at your suggestion) I may look at photos of other 'better arches' and see if anything catches my fancy.

One last thought....even if I did find a prettier arch, I think it might be too much to have my new mirrored window, plus an updated light fixture plus an arch. I do like having a mirror there since I have no window. That could be the next dilemma.....

To make it look more modern, remove the wavy board. Your cabinets will look great with straight modern edges. That will then give you more wall space to put up a fixture of your liking.

Do you have any idea how it's attached to the cabinets? Are there screws up there, or is it glued on? If it's glued, I think you might be stuck with it as it could ruin your cabinets to remove it.

Your window shutter and mirror is a cute way to deal with not having a window above the sink.

Hayleydaniels, It looks like the wavy board is screwed on. I'm glad you like my shuttered mirror. I've had it for so many years, I have plans for a bigger mirrored old window and a neat light fixture close to what Barbara Almandarz suggested. Barbara Almandarz, I appreciate your input about leaving my cabinets with the straight edges. There is nothing on the other side of the window as it is a mirror (is that what you are asking?) Thank you everyone!!!! It helps me so much with this process of figuring out what to do!

I don't see that removing the wavy valance is going to change much in your room, or make it "more modern."

The shuttered window is more of an issue--it's a bit overpowering over your sink.

Thanks everyone for your input. I am sorry I left that very dated faux window up on my wall -- it must appear as a real window in my photo. It is coming down as soon as I figure out how and what I'm doing with the wavy valance. I still do appreciate the many ideas!! Thank you again!

I knocked mine off with a hammer after getting boo bood on here. Ha. It was no problem.

I finally removed the wood valance! I've yet to find a replacement for my shuttered window mirror, but if I find something better, I'll later include a photo. I'm very pleased how it turned out. I found a light on Etsy that had a an on/off switch, which made it possible to leave wiring etc. as it was.

there are so many other better mirror choices. that one is just so clunky. maybe paint it? I like the light

try HomeGoods or Wayfair for small 'window mirrors'.

try a salvage yard,,you could also frost regular glass if you find a window

Beth H, I appreciate your input. I did try one mirror but it didn't thrill me. I like a little more character, so I'm still looking. I was going to paint the outside wood area.

So by clunky, you mean too big or too bulky? I always thought it was too wide. I want something bigger to mimic an actual window.

What did you do there?? I've been waiting a year !!!
