Ceiling panels

Can you please tell me why type of plywood is used, thickness, and how it is fastened? Thanks

We used 1/2" Birch plywood. It is fastened to 1x4 furring strips with pan head screws. We used stainless steel screws for the look. We placed the furring strips at diagonals so there is a 1/2" reveal between the panels. The material cost was not significant, but it was alot of labor.
