I am thinking about giving my aunt a maple tree for birthay present, would this maple thrive in pachuca Bsk cold semi arid with the warmest month high average being 75f, cold average of the warmest month being 46f, coldest month high average is 64f and average low on coldest month is 35f
What other kinds of trees are prevalent there? If the winds are too hot and dry a deciduous maple might not do well even on a large, liberally watered lawn. Mineral salts in irrigation water could also be problematic.
The main ecosystem are grasslands, the main tree species are oaks, like quercus rugosa or viminea, alongside rivers willows such as salix bonplandiana and montezuma cypress, the city is very windy but most of the time its cool mountain air
Based on what I have seen in Orlando the place for the maples would be the riparian habitat along with the willows and cypress. Not where water sits for months at a time, but definitely in the vicinity - and not in upland soils.
I believe most maples need colder winters than yours. But maybe the mexican sugar maple, acer skutchii? Of course Mexico is large with varying climates but it might be worth checking out at least.
it woul be great, if you can get an acer skutchii, they are very rare, i think Acer grandidentatum is also worth a try, I have seen them growing here in Monterrey at very low altitudes, those should be ok with warmer winters, the problem is that i havent seen any seeds on them this year.
