Be sure to watch out for mealy bugs on this one! They like to hide in the crevices of the leaves.

Hate mealy bugs :( is there a safe systemic that can be used to prevent them?

I hope someone else answers because i dont know. I have never had a problem with them and i dont grow this particular hoya.

I've found that robust, healthy plants that are well-nourished and get adequate light are not prone to infections and you can use alcohol spray or swish it in water and alcohol.

Thanks all. And thank you lati, I'm still alcoholing the mealy bugs on my Stapelia and Huernia but I've isolated them and they're also outside. No problems on the Hoya so far thankfully, but wasn't sure what is safe for them as it's a new plant for me .

They are awesome...well, Hoyas, I've never owned this type of Carnosa.....but I have three other varieties.

I've had great success at ridding/preventing mealy bug and scale with Brand X foliage cleanser, it's non-toxic and also imparts a nice shine to the leaves. From Will Creed at allexperts:

Brand X is particularly effective because it contains silicon, which has an unusual penetrating ability that allows it to get into tiny crevices and places that other remedies do not reach. It is available only through Southwest Plantscape Products in California. Their phone is 800-333-7977. Brand X is also a very good leaf shine that dries quickly to a non-oily, glossy finish with no wiping necessary. One caution: Avoid getting it on floors because it will make them very slippery. Brand X is not a pesticide...

I have a pint coming which makes 3-4 gallons of spray. I could pass around a few small samples if anyone wants to try before you buy. :)
