You can make your own mix with peat, perlite or vermiculite and a mix of different types of compost as described in the book. Those items should be available near you. You can grow broccoli and other cole crops, peas, carrots and other things if you have a mild winter, but start this month. (Unless it's 105 outside like it is here today.)
