I thought I was in the privacy of my garden today...sat down outside to cool off a bit before going inside after weeding/mulching all day and fell asleep. Woke up some time later in the midst of a herd of deer, mommies and babies eating my daylilies and drinking from my waterfall! Don't know who was startled most, me or them! Surprised they got as close to me as they did; someone in my neighborhood must be feeding them or they wouldn't have, several babies were within 2 yards of me when I woke....

Did we know that: Dryer Sheets (work) as Bug Repellant?

I just came across this!. What is in dryer sheets repels insects - at least some. For gnats and, anecdotally, for mosquitoes.

It probably won't help with fungus gnats in your house plants that you brought back indoors several weeks ago. The gnats are already in the potting soil.

But, when we are outdoors in the garden and troubled by insects, we may want to use dryer sheets in our hats and tucked into our sleeves!

By the way, here's the original study (link). With such a large numbers of gnats in such small containers, it shouldn't really be surprising that about 15% of them ended up with the repellent. We know from voting patterns that every population has a lunatic fringe ...

They're supposed to repel mice as well. I'll try taking one with me while gardening next summer, mosquitos are quite the problem for me. I buy out mosquito dunks every year for our water features and rain barrels but it doesn't seem to ever get rid of all of them. HATE being outside with those things buzzing around my face!
