African Violets

If I have multiples of a trailing violet....

How do you make one of those big pans of matted together trailing violets? How do you make enough drainage in the plant pot--that looks a lot like a clay plant saucer? Or I have a blue clay bonsai pot that would look good with violets trailing over it. Do they plant in something else and just sit it in the plant pot?

What do you call this kind of planting. I can't find info about it online because I don't know what to call it.

It is called Japanese style. I found an article by Norma Kinzel in "Chatter" = Canadian Violet magazine - by the way - amazingly informative - with all the instructions. http://www.avsc.ca/chatter_4_2012.pdf page 18.
