Thanks Tracy, I will cut the long branches back and later repot it into a bonsai pot.

That would be my personal choice too, to cut the branches shorter and give the plant a more balanced look. The longer ones won't now leaf out along their length but would just go on getting longer unless you prune them back like you suggest. It will look really good and go on to make a stunning plant especially with those roots! Go for it.

I would cut out the central (tall) branch very low, if not right out. It would give this tree the appearance of a Thai Soco. Looks to be of obesum, so may have a tendency to push out growth as it has with the long one.

Tony. Just my opinion. If you prune it at marked arrows, you will end up with much the same appearance as now. I would make the cut at the level or preferably below the level of the leaves at base as long as you have a few internodes below this cut. This way the new branches will help to create a bowl or mushroom shape to tree.
