Please help me save my Esmeralda cathcartii!

So, around almost half a year ago I got a Esmeralda cathcartii along with a clarkei. The clarkei is doing great but the cathcartii was always so shriveled. They where both mounted in the same way, tied to cork bark with a very thin layer of coco fibre covering the end. Part couple months ago the cathcartii put out one root stub which never made it to being a centimeter... Recently the leaves have been drying and dropping pretty fast even though I watered them at least once a day. I impulsively repotted it into a basket of bark chips and perlite (dust :( ) Now, I'm starting to regret my decision, thinking back on how that one root was an aerial root and putting it in media would kill it. The plant hasn't made and progress, bad or good, but I'm just so scared of killing it. When I had uncovered it I saw it had just been a cutting and the root it grew out was the only one. As I looked back at the clarkei I saw it had roots in which it came with.

please, I need advice on what to do! I don't want to kill this plant, which i really like!

This next pic is the clarkei and shows how they were both mounted
