Are you looking for seeds for your veggie garden for next year or just everything in general? For tomato and other veggie seeds I either order from Baker seeds or some from Tomato Grower's Supply. Baker also has some nice varieties of sunflowers, marigolds, zinnias and others that I direct sow.

Everything in general, really. I would like to start giving my business to a local company but I want to go with a reputable one. Is this Baker Creek Heirloom Seed you're talking about? From what I can tell it looks like they're in Missouri?

Sorry for my late reply, but yes, that is the same Baker Creek seed company I'm talking about. Very good quality. And from what I'm told a delight to visit if you're ever up that way.

I also like Sand Hill Preservation Center, located in Iowa.

Holly, I don't know that there is a 'local' seed company, unless you want to scout your community garden centers, hardware stores, and Feed and Seeds. Your selection won't be as good as a great mail order seed house.

That's a bummer rhizo_1. I sure would love a one-stop shop that's not a big box store, even if it was online. No wonder I was having a hard time finding a local one--I guess they don't exist. Business idea, anyone?? :)

Holly, have you found a local garden center or two that have a good selection at reasonable prices? Do you have an old fashioned Feed and Seed in your area? I would think that you'd have the most luck there and you would be pretty confident that the seeds would be favorite old varieties and fresh.

I haven't dropped in to visit the one in my city for a few years and I should! If not for seed, but for my other gardening supplies which are not inconsiderable.

You set a good example by wanting to support local businesses, whenever possible.
