worm egg capsules

I have been harvesting worm castings from my bins for a couple of years now and have seen many egg capsules and the occasional pair of worms mating (looks like someone has taken two worms and somehow tied them in a not in the middle). My question is........ has anyone ever seen one of their worms "laying" an egg capsule? Do the young worm embryos(?) form in the clitellum and eventually form a capsule which slides off the worm like a doughnut? You would think that having thousands of worms one would eventually see how this happens. Maybe that just something they do in the privacy of their own worm bins.
