How Much to Tip Movers

We are moving this week and using professional movers for the first time. I have read we should tip the movers, but how much? I asked the moving company but they said it's up to us. There will be 4 guys moving our stuff to our new home about 40 minutes away. We packed everything ourselves and are consolidating there boxes into just a few locations in the current home. The movers will move the furniture into place and put all the boxes in the garage, and we will distribute them to the various rooms. Thank you.

The last time we moved was 5 years ago (actually we moved out of our house and then back in after major renos and everything was in storage) Anyway, the four guys that moved everything back in were so good. They were polite, pleasant, put all the furniture in the proper rooms, etc. and were mindful of the fact that everything in the house was brand new. I know they should be mindful of that anyway but we appreciated the extra effort. We tipped them $30 each. I just hope it was enough.

Depending on their attitude, how careful they are with your stuff/house and how long it takes, I would tip each of them $50 to $100. We try to reward good work and attitude for service/trade people who are employed by a larger company and earn a low hourly wage.

Wow, I thought I was being generous with $20 ea, but you guys are great. However, our minimum wage is higher here, so tipping is maybe lower?

I packed her kitchen and bathrooms, but we hired movers for Mom's furniture, art, collectibles 3 weeks ago. Less than half the household contents went (destination, retirement apartment 60 miles away). I'd organized so all items in master bedroom went, all in the family room, office, one major piece each from two additional bedrooms. So I could give concise and clear instructions and waste no time - theirs or mine.

They brought us coffee when they arrived (Starbucks), provided their own lunch and water, declined beverages I had for them (which was bottled water, soft drinks). I tipped them 5% total bill each, in cash ($45). I hope it was enough, we couldn't have survived the day without them ;)

For a half day, $10 each; for a full day, $20 each according to this web site

Thanks, all. I had looked online before posting and found suggestions all over the board. Sort of like here. :)

    I appreciate everyone's input.

I tipped the 3 men who moved me in 3 or 4 hours $20 each.

Last time I moved, I was told it would take the 3 guys approximately 4-6 hrs. Was prepared to tip - had cash from cash station.

The 3rd guy spent the day, "not feeling well" and did very little. In retrospect, I should have called the company told them the 3rd guy was sick and suggested he go home.

Then they started working really slowly the last 2 hours, it was apparent they were trying to stretch the job to 8 hrs.

I paid for 3 guys for 8 hours and received the work of 2 guys for 5 hours. Move previous to that (same amt belongings) DS helped me and we were done in less than 6 hrs. (2 women x 6 hrs vs 3 men x 8 hrs). Thus, no tip.

When I made the move from San Diego to Austin, I tipped the two movers $100 each, plus loaded up a cooler with water and sports drinks when they left SD. When they arrived at my home, I went to a local Mexican restaurant and got them lunch. It wasn't only the 2 of them moving things in, my 2 sons, son-in-law, and my best friend and myself moving the smaller things. I did the unpacking of ALL the boxes myself.
