It's probably not even a member of the Labiatae (Lamiaceae or mint family). The flowers look like they have 4 or 5 fold symmetry. It looks like a member of the aster family, perhaps related to thistles. Maybe a member of the campanula family, but I would need a higher resolution image of the flowers.

If that is the flower at maturity, I'd agree. Some members of the pink family have flowers that look like this at the budding stage. The structure of the seed capsule inside the calyx when the sees have ripened will tell the story.

I don't know af any member of either the aster or pink family that attracts bees, though. What part of the USA are you from, the Southwest?

Thank you. These are the fully open flowers. Forgot to mention, I'm in zone 8a, TX. The Lady Bird Johnson wildflower center deems some forms of special value to native bees

It looks like Baccharis neglects, AKA poverty weed, consumption weed, New Deal weed. If it is, pull it out and get rid of it. It suckers and seeds prolifically and is hard to get rid of. I spend a lot of energy controlling it. IT is very pretty in the fall.

Bingo! I think you are exactly right. Thank you. Given all the help I have received here, I cut down the plant because I could not imagine what would happen if all those flowers went to seed. Now, I am going to pull the rest of it out. Thanks again.
