I would strongly suggest against the click and order type of home plans, especially for something unique and beautiful with the style you stated. Also with teenagers you'll want to make sure your home has the elements that help your family truly function. If you're building a custom home why not spend a few bucks getting the perfect house on paper...ordering a plan is not a way to save. Good luck! use that picture with your architect or draftsman to give them exterior style direction.

This is a picture from Frank Betz's website. I am definitely working with an architect and/or home design team. I have OCD about symmetry so whatever is on the right side exterior of the house, I need for the left side to look the same.

We are in the initial planning stages. We are gathering ideas, deciding what we need/want, and determining what our budget will allow. My husband is a farmer and just finished the 2015 crop, so hopefully we can move forward and enlist the help of professionals. We haven't purchased any plans-we just like the exterior of this plan.

Agree with all comments already made but 4300 sg ft is a large house and your children especially the 17 year old are on their way to living independently. Lots of thinking needs to be done. Good luck

I agree, but 1500 sq ft more or less will be in the basement. Because of the way the lot slopes, it just makes sense to have an unfinished walkout basement

Ask friends with open concept what they like and do not like about it. Especially ask friends with teens. If I was building a new home (and I have 4 kids) I would probably go with a smaller square footage than 4300 but a finished basement.

I have teen boys in your age group. As far as kids, think about building a home for those that have to return home after college. I'm finishing an attic for that reason. Now for teens to hang and later if someone returns home. The design of your home is lovely but I don't like basement windows on facade.
