Looks like you got some nice seeds coming along there pal, what varieties did you get from Mr Ko?

Phil, I think it's a combination of both growing conditions and genetics. Nearly every single plant from this batch is branching. Only one isn't, and it's turning out to be a big fella.

These are the two I ordered. I know you like the picotee, but I have a soft spot for the dark ones. It's also interesting to note, that I can tell the seedlings apart by stem color and leaf shape. In the post with four images above, you can see that two of them have green stems, wile the other two are red. The red stems are the ones with the flower with the red stripe below.

Hey you have a good memory Dain, I do like the picotee flowers a lot, but I am a sucker for nice flowers in general lol. I have a couple of black king growing, not expecting them to be true, but you gotta be in it to win it, right?

I like dark flowers too and when I got my seeds from ko he sent me some hybrid seeds with a purple flower. I know purple are not stable and known for weak growth, but will sow them soon and see what pops up.

That second flower is a stunner, I hope yours come true to form, really rich and velvety looking. Nice seedlings btw.

Very nice Dain! These are looking really happy. Congrats on your successes. The cool thing is that the darker colors of KOs have come true. David from Venezuela had documented some results on Yahoo groups from growing Mr. Ko's seeds and he was able to get some purples and blacks too. They didn't always look just like the parent but they came close. I am also a fan of the darker flowers and have recently ordered more seeds from Ko.

Photo update! I figured as this forum has slowed down a bit for us northern hemisphere dweller's I would try to do my part to spark some activity by sharing two current photos of the first plant posted above. I've never really seen any adenium seedling that looks like this one. It is a curiosity, and I'm not sure what I want to do with it! Suggestions? Comments? Sarcastic remarks?

Keep it potted in a bigger pot for maximum growth if you have the space. Awesome seedling!

Dain, I would pot into just one size pot up. The tree has not bulked up in caudex, but has produced some nice branching for future shape.

I would just see how it grows. I believe this is an obesum?

The branches may continue to grow straight up and if so, then you might want to think about trimming it at some point to get some laterals coming for shape. This would not be for some time though.

Quadruple Towers! How unusual that is, it will look fantastic with a few years growth on it so please let US keep an eye on its progress.

Rick, this is indeed an obesum from Ko's seeds. I will repot this weekend in hopes that it hastens growth. I like this guy, but it is a bit funny looking, and not as cute as it was back in october.

This is a really nice tree. I love the shape of it. Nice to be retaining it's leaves.

Ha-ha, I can now see what you mean Rick, the perspective in that first pic does make it look like a really huge tree, lol! I was trying to get the branches lit using the sun that appeared momentarily through a window whilst holding the Ipad with its cover flapping wildly one hand, the pot above my head with the other, trying to get a steady in focus shot, whilst not showering myself with gritty mix, it's surprising how heavy it is! Sadly, it's not that big in real life, I didn't realise how odd it looked photo'd like that, it's just a regular 6inch half-pot and ordinary plant tag....not a 6ft hedge stake/name tag!

Dain, it was sown in Feb 2008 believe it or not, so has grown very slowly for me, but that's fine as far as I'm concerned. It's fractionally over 7 inches tall from soil level and I've just tried to count the main branches...'tried' being the operative word here, it's nigh on impossible, there are at least 20 primaries then they have subdivided into many more. I just found a few yellowed and dried leaves this morning, but apart from them it's retaining all leaves as are it's two siblings....its the centre one here snapped four weeks ago on 7-12-15.

Here's another that i just can't believe is branching so much! Seed germination was in late July 2015.

You have another good looking one there Dain, it will be great to follow these through year on year and see just what they are capable of.

I agree those are nice looking seedlings plants from all posters. Why not get some annealed copper wire and pull a couple branches down a little. It looks like breeding has achieved a lot of branching, but haven't gotten around strong apical dominance, all the branches want to go up more than out.

I've got almost 50 seedlings, and I haven't been interested in training except for the occasional pruning.
