I'm not one of the professionals here, but I like the fact that your sink is placed beneath a window and your range/stovetop is against an exterior wall, which will allow for easier venting of the hood. I'm a little worried about how much the island interrupts the route to the refrigerator, but I don't see an easy solution for that. Is there a reason why the cabinets against the refrigerator wall are 16"? I'd prefer to see them the full 24 with a cabinet-depth fridge if possible. But let's see what others think.

I would move the sink to the island, so that you can center the stove on the island. This will look especially good if you are thinking about installing a hood. I would personally look to extend the kitchen into the breakfast nook all the way to the wall. This might require you to have a smaller table in your breakfast nook however. If you did this, you could slide the island to the right. Just my two cents. I am designing the layout for house right now too.

The current layout looks great and this is a very spacious kitchen for the size of house. This is a personal preference but I like the 'see-thru' feel from the foyer to the back. Perhaps you can narrow down the 8 foot hallway down to 5 feet, which would still provide the openness thus making the kitchen larger as well.

Feeny...need the space at the back of the bar stools, ergo the 16" D cabs. I agree that the island will be in the way of the work triangle with the refrigerator there...but with the exterior door and sidelights(?) and the pocket doors to the front hall, I don't see how to expand further towards the family room (Dytecture is seeing something I'm not). Going the other way impinges on the seated dining area. Not so good either. I like the columns and flanking cabinets at the transition wall between kitchen and family room...I look forward to seeing finished project photos one day!
