I've been doing all I can to feed and hydrate the hard compacted, sometimes poisoned clay this house is on. The other week, I found some soil worms at the side of the house where I'm composting to prepare for gardens next year. Today, I found some (and a lot of casts, they've been there a while) under a pile of grass clippings I was going to mulch with, but then got delayed and let them sit there and rot.

These aren't descendants of the handful of probably-euros I've released to the compost; they're dull pink with no stripes and they've dug deep tunnels into the clay. They seem to be making a slow lap around the house from the undeveloped area off the back yard, to the front yard plots that started this whole project. Hopefully they'll get this clay moving enough that I don't have to break more tools next year double digging what's essentially concrete when it's dry, and very hard to wet.
