For the life of me, I cannot find on the Houzz site how to send private messages. 'Realize I'm probably overlooking the obvious, but if someone could guide me through this, I sure would appreciate it!! Linda

Hi Linda,

You probably aren't overlooking anything. Each member must choose whether or not to allow private messaging in "Settings". If they do so a link will appear on the right side of the cover photo on their "home page" (and yes, I just figured this one out!) If they choose not to, it seems you, me, and a lot of other folks here spend precious time looking for something that's not there! If memory serves, the old format stated whether or not you could contact someone privately.

I don't quite understand the "Follow" feature, which is another choice you have in "Settings". I think if someone allows you to "Follow" them and you do so, you receive an alert whenever that person makes a post or responds to an existing one. I think I chose to "follow" the 3 or so people who first "followed" me; in hindsight I maybe wish I hadn't because I can't follow everyone, and don't want anyone I don't follow to feel slighted. Am I making sense?!

Anyway, I hope the info I provided is correct ;-D and helps solve your problem Feel free to share with us any tips you have about this new GardenWeb. It is still a bit confusing & intimidating to navigate.

On another note, I hope you are able to attend the Spring '16 swap in Gadsden. If it's anything like the one we just had, you'll be VERY glad you did!

You also have to go looking for messages. There's nothing on forum pages that indicates you've received one.

The steps to reach the setting for PM's are: click your Houzz in top right corner, edit profile button, advanced settings link to the left, scroll to privacy settings, adjust "who can message me." Scroll down & click update button.

Thanks for the step-by-step, Tiffany. I don't know why it's so difficult for me to remember that sequence, but maybe repeating it several times will etch it to my brain ;-)

I receive an e-mail in my aol account notifying me that I have a message on Houzz. I'm going to guess that happens because in 'Advance Settings', under 'Email Notifications', I checked 'Subscribe to General Updates, Promotions, and research e-mails.' Can anyone confirm that?

There's a whole pages of email options you can choose (yes, under advance settings.) IDK why the email/PM settings aren't labeled, doesn't seem like an advanced area to me. W/o knowing what your message said, it's hard to say what setting "allowed it"...

I sent it Nelson- I'm sure it didn't say "subscribe to general updates, etc." I was just doing what you'd suggested above to test it...
