They probably can take full Louisiana sun unless completely unadapted to sunlight. Dividing these is very difficult and often ends up with several dead palms. Much cheaper and easier to just eliminate a few unwanted trunks and keep the ones you want… and buy more for elsewhere if you need more (one of the cheapest palms there are).

very true about them being the cheapest palm, although there were two

that were lower priced. but for the first real attempt to grow any type of palm

it was a good choice to me.

I've seen pics online of 3 clustered. I realize the trunks aren't really that big,

but wondered if they would be healthy growing that close together.

I'd like to plant them near my agave, and they will get full sun all day.

any pearls of wisdom for a noob?

They certainly grow them in full sun in florida.. They generally plant them in clusters because the usual wisdom is that they look better?? There are several planted in groups that i know to be over 20 years old, in view of my window . Some have conjoined over the years . They do need excellent drainage . Only thing I've seen that kills them is floods

Not sure of the cold hardiness as I'm in 10 though I know the groups I mentioned survived short periods of 26!! Would think they would do very well in your area assuming they don't go underwater and the hard freezes are at a minimum lol BTW .These are very easy to grow from seed .good luck gary

it has given me a chance to find out where not to plant the palms.

luckily the two spots I had picked out stay above water!

I'll be looking to plant them in the next few days, and if I can

easily take two palms from the bunch of five, I'll separate them.

my concern was that they would battle each other being so closely

bunched together, I guess the strong would survive!
