Kim, perhaps you could post some photos of your Adenium? This would be helpful in diagnosing the trouble. Any of mine that have been soft was usually due to a problem with the roots.

I am living in Southern California which is warm & humid due to missing the rain this whole year. Got no idea what type of soil is... Because I"ve just bought those trees couple days ago and plan to repot. The tree with the white Caudex was fine, the other one with the hanging, partial Caudex with brown color was not as hard as the green part at the top. It's completely dry when I touch all the way to bottom of the pot. . The root can't be rot since soil still dry , then what 's going with my tree ? Is it going to die ???

Also heard about the sun burn ... Was it made the Caudex soft like that ?

Urgent Surgery is what it needs if the caudex is soft. All the brown dead part removed, in my opinion and apply generous amounts of powdered cinnamon on the cut &hang it for a full week or more for it to dry & heal before putting it in soil again. I lost a plant like that. Soil was dry but the caudex turned soft. I didn't operate and the entire plant died.

However, please do await a second opinion

Kim, If you plan on repotting these? I would do it. The brown area at the bottom of caudex does not look good to me. I would take out of pot and inspect the roots.

You say that you have only had for a few days, even if the soil may feel dry. You do not know it's history of care. Not sunburn. It would not be isolated to around the bottom as it is.

Unpot both trees and inspect.
